This can help restore independence to a person who was completely reliant on other people for every activity, whether it's brushing their teeth, eating their dinner or taking a drink."

Wow, that's amazing! This technology could help so many people get their lives back!

Is it just us, or does this seem like something people already know?

New research, however common sense it might seem, is telling that overweight or obese women who are middle-aged run a higher risk of dangerous blood clots! Especially after surgery!

Sometimes it just takes official words to make it sink in!

Here's what they did: Following one million UK women, the link between obesity and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) — blood clots in the veins, usually in the legs, became obvious. Those clots seem to break free pretty often, and can result in a pulmonary embolism, which have a high rate of being fatal!

Their weight leads to a higher risk in itself, but also heavier women end up needing more surgery… which bumps that risk even further.

The best way to avoid this spike is to lose some weight. Plain and simple. And in most cases, it doesn't mean a TON of weight either. The healthier you are weight-wise, the healthier you are all over!

You can't just lose it though, you need to stay active.

Honestly, you don't need the threat of blood clots to do this — this should be something you should do just to make your health and life better!

Don't let scary reasons be the only reasons to do it! Do it for you!

He will be one of 8,000 people that will carry the torch during a 70-day relay that will start in Cornwall, southern England, and reach the Shetland Islands, off Scotland's north coast.

This is great news for your backside nether-regions: laxative free colonoscopies may work just as well as the ones that clear you out!

The new way of doing it involves lying in a CT scanner, rather than being probed with an endoscope, and not having to drink about a gallon of laxatives before the visit.

One doctor said:

"The subtraction of the laxative can only make what's already an attractive test even more attractive."

LOLz!

In all seriousness, people are known to actually avoid getting tested because of how uncomfortable and UNattractive the whole thing is. This could lead to saving many more lives!

The only real problem is that if the virtual test finds a polyp that needs removed, you then have to do all the invasive stuff to get rid of it.

But hey, maybe the chance of not finding anything is worth it??

Besides, the virtual test found 91% of the polyps and the colonoscopy found 95% (but had a better rate of finding the smaller, less worrisome ones) — so maybe that 4% doesn't mean much to you!

It's always good to have options!

Not ALL sunscreens are harmful, but you need to avoid those that have potentially harmful ingredients!

Of course, though, do the benefits of blocking the sun outweigh the ingredients…? Not if there are better solutions!

A staggeringly low 25% of 800 tested sunscreens are effective without using harmful ingredients.

To make the safe list, sunscreens must be free of oxybenzone, retinyl palmitate (a type of vitamin A), and not have SPF above 50 and protect against UVA and UVB sunrays.

Apparently 56% of beach and sport sunscreens contain the chemical oxybenzone. Oxybenzone is there to absorb ultraviolet light, but some research shows oxybenzone can be absorbed through the skin — which isn't good at all. It has been linked to hormone disruption and might further cell damage and lead to skin cancer (which is what it's trying to prevent!)!

The American Academy of Dermatology says otherwise, and that oxybenzone is safe:

"Oxybenzone is one of the few FDA-approved ingredients that provides effective broad spectrum protection from UV radiation, and has been approved for use since 1978."

Consumers are also being warned to avoid retinyl palminate, which is a particular type of vitamin A that may increase risk of skin cancer when used on sun-exposed skin. However, these reports have been in mice and evidence has been inconclusive for humans.

Consumers should use products labeled broad spectrum, and most dermatologists agree. That means the product protects against both UVB rays that cause sunburns and also UVA radiation that causes premature skin damage and aging.

Also, consumers should not purchase sunscreens with SPF greater than 50. SPF (sun protection factor) works by absorbing, reflecting or scattering the sun's rays on the skin — and once you hit SPF 50 the protection plateaus and the rest doesn't really become worth it. At 50 you have 98% protection!

Plus SPF only indicates the protection against UVB rays!

Here's the quick guide amongst all the info:

–Use a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 and a maximum of SPF 50;
–Make sure labels list UVA and UVB (or broad spectrum protection);
–Avoid products containing oxybenzone and retinyl palminate if you're concerned about potentially toxic chemicals;
–Choose lotions versus spray sunscreens for a more evenly distributed protection.
Remember to apply at least 2 ounces of lotion (about a shot glass full) and reapply often. The sun breaks down the ingredients in sunscreen that protect your skin. Experts recommend reapplying every two hours, or after swimming or heavy sweating.

Happy Summer, guys!

Women's boxing will be brought to the Summer Olympics for the first time in London this summer.

The U.S. is going to have one representative: 22-year-old Marlen Esparza.

Esparza, from Houston, recently defeated Luu Thi Duyen of Vietnam to earn her ticket to the Summer Games.

Two other female U.S. boxers, Quanitta Underwood, 28, and Claressa Shields, 17, were eliminated for the qualifying tournament, the Women's World Boxing Championships, which were in China.

Though they may still make it into the Olympics if an international commission decides so.

Olympic women's boxing will feature three weight divisions: featherweight (112 pounds), lightweight (132 pounds) and middleweight (165 pounds).

We really hope she wins the gold!

You go, gurl! Punch those faces!

U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
